SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT and CONSERVATION through EDUCATION.

SCHOOL PROGRAMMES

These programmes are aimed at reaching ALL the kids in South Africa. We introducing them to new and wonderful things, making them excited about nature and wildlife, and helping them to rediscover their place within the "bigger picture of life". Only by getting our youth passionate and involved in discovering the magic of life on earth for themselves, will we be able to install a lasting respect and compassion towards their environment and all other living species on earth.

Our school programmes also focus specific on Education for Sustainable Development, thus, aiming at preserving our natural heritage and ensuring that it benefits generations to come. Included in these programmes are:

HOW WE DO IT

  • SKILLED & ENTHUSIASTIC VOLUNTEERS

    The Wildlife Education Foundation (WEF) is an apolitical, Non-Profit Organisation founded and managed by a group of volunteers, which are all professionals with a passion and an interest in sustainable development, biodiversity, education and the conservation of our natural heritage. The WEF has no permanent employed staff and you are invited to apply and join our group of volunteers.

  • EXCELLENT EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS

    All our projects are developed by professionals and all our projects are aimed at reaching South Africa's youth (tomorrows decision-makers) as well as the present adult generation (today's decision-makers).

  • SUSTAINABLE FUNDRAISING PROJECTS

    In order to fulfil our vision, mission and objectives, the WEF (as a registered NPO as well as PBO) needs to raise the necessary funds - and we do that by either applying our professional skills and expertise (see our "Ways to Support") or specific fundraising projects.

  • INDIVIDUAL & CORPORATE SUPPORT

    The WEF is a registered NPO and PBO, and as such sponsorships/donations to the WEF are exempt by SARS from donation tax and/or estate duty in terms of the respective Income and Estate Duty Acts.
    WEF is also a LEVEL 4 BEE Contributor and a 100% contributor towards Preferential Procurement.

In order to fulfil our vision, mission and objectives, the WEF (a registered Non-Profit Organisation, no: 078-886 NPO) needs to raise the necessary funds - and we do that by either applying our professional skills and expertise (see our "Ways to Support") or specific fundraising projects such as the one below:

Books TWO award winning and absolute unique wildlife books on Africa's mammls (English edition as well as Afrikaans edition) have been donated to the WEF and the profits generated through the selling of these two amazing and brand new wildlife books, are re-utilised for conservation education by the WEF.

These beautifully illustrated hardcover books are in a class of their own. It differs from any other existing wildlife book in that it focuses on providing as much unique information as possible on each of the 101 different species in a condensed, yet, most informative and stunningly illustrated style.

Our projects are all aimed at reaching South Africa's youth (tomorrows decision-makers) as well as the present adult generation (today's decision-makers).
Consequently, the WEF needs a variety of skills to assist us and most qualifications could therefore be extremely helpfull.

A specific qualification in nature conservation is not required to join the WEF Volunteers. The most important qualification remains enthusiasm, a positive attitude and a willingness to get involved.


Typically, a WEF volunteer assists in the following areas:

  • education, workshops & presentations,
  • professional services, events, media,
  • marketing and fundraising

South Africa's natural environment has, over the past 20 years, deteriorated nearly the fastest of most countries in the world, rankeding 128 out of the 132 countries measured ((EPI), with Iraq last on the list.

During the past 80 years we have decreased the numbers of large mammals in Africa by between 80 and 96%, destroyed more than 55% of our wetlands and critically endangered 54% of our river systems degraded our arable land and soil to a point of being in dire and of the lowest quality in Africa - leaving South Africa with an ecological footprint higher than the global average!

The deterioration of our environment means a decrease in living standards and the quality of life for all - we MUST change our destructive behaviour NOW !!!
Its a fact that only KNOWLEDGE changes ATTITUDES and ACTIONS - exactly what the WEF's mission is!
